Lobster Wall
Lobster Wall is arguably Mabul's best dive site.
This dive site features a nice wall full of lobsters and many more inhabitants.
One of the best sites in Mabul, this deep open water wall and reef dive with depths from 25 to 40m and with good viz of 20m, is crammed with colourful fish such as ghost pipe-fish, clown-fish, impressive looking lion-fish, seahorses, rabbit-fish and puffer-fish all hiding amongst the crevices and ledges off the wall and inside the corals. Lobster Wall is Mabul's change of register — arguably the island's best dive, and certainly its most un-Mabul one. Where the rest of the island is shallow sand and rubble, this is a genuine open-water wall dropping from 25 to 40 metres with visibility that often reaches 20 — the closest thing to a Sipadan profile without leaving Mabul's boat schedule.
Life on the wall
The wall itself is crammed: lobsters in the crevices that named it, lionfish holding station in the overhangs, ghost pipefish and seahorses on the growth, clownfish cities, rabbitfish and pufferfish grazing the face. It rewards a well-planned profile — start deep, work up slowly, and the last ten metres are as busy as the first.
Who this dive is for
Fair warning from the depth numbers: with a 25-metre starting line, this is a dive for comfortable Open Water divers and above, and it's precisely the site where an Advanced Open Water certification pays for itself — both for the depth ceiling and the confidence.
