Mabul Backpackers is a clean, newly built overwater longhouse in a quiet corner of Mabul island — the budget way to actually sleep over the water in one of the world's great muck-diving destinations. Rooms run from simple dorm beds to twin-share and air-conditioned seaview rooms, and the rate includes all three meals, served in the open-deck restaurant, with a long jetty leading out to a lounge area over the sea. Tea and coffee flow all day.

正直にお伝えしておきます。ここはリゾートではなく、高床式のロングハウスです。壁は木造で、設備は最小限ですが、デッキからの夕日や足元に広がるセレベス海、そして少し歩けばマブール島の村の生活に触れられるなど、外に広がる環境こそが最大の魅力です。多くのダイバーにとって、それこそが求めていた旅のスタイルなのです。

ダイビングの内容は、高級リゾートが提供するものと全く同じです。カエルアンコウやピグミーシーホース、ヒョウモンダコ、夕暮れ時のニシキテグリが見られるマブール島の有名なマクロポイントまでは数分。お隣はカパライですし、シパダンへの日帰りトリップも入島許可証（パーミット）のシステムに従って催行されています（数泊すると取得できる確率が上がります。島内のどこかを予約する前に、パーミットの仕組みについてぜひお問い合わせください）。
